Air India announces that it is taking steps to close the gaps created by DGCA’s action in relation to the urination incident

Air India, the aviation regulator DGCA, initiated enforcement actions on Friday. It said that it acknowledged the shortcomings in reporting regarding the incident of urination onboard a New York to Delhi flight last year. The company is taking appropriate steps to address these issues.

A passenger allegedly relieved themselves on a female passenger on an AI-102 flight between New York and Delhi on November 26, last year. The incident was brought to the attention of the Directorate General Civil Aviation (DGCA), on January 4.

Friday’s announcement by DGCA stated that it had imposed a Rs 30 lakh penalty on Air India and suspended the license for the pilot-in command of the flight. The airline’s Director for in-flight service has been fined Rs 3 lakh. These enforcement actions were taken due to various violations.

“We have received today’s order from the Director General for Civil Aviation and we are reviewing it. “We respectfully acknowledge the shortcomings in our reporting, and are taking appropriate steps to ensure that they are addressed,” an Air India spokesperson stated in a statement.

The spokesperson stated that the airline is increasing the awareness of crews about policies regarding handling incidents involving disruptive passengers. “Air India is committed in ensuring the safety and well-being for our passengers.”
