Gurugram (Haryana): Gurugram Police have detained 13 suspected Bangladeshi nationals for allegedly staying illegally in the city and have started the process to deport them, an official said.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Naveen Sharma said the Crime Branch received information nearly a month ago that several Bangladeshi nationals were allegedly residing illegally in India and working as labourers at different locations across Gurugram.
“Based on this information, the team detained 13 Bangladeshi nationals who were living illegally in the country. After their documents were checked, it was confirmed that they had entered India unlawfully. Following this, the process for their deportation was initiated,” Sharma said.
He stated that the 13 detainees are being transported to Malda Town in West Bengal under the supervision of an inspector and a team of 23 police personnel. They will be handed over to the security agencies there for further deportation proceedings.
Sharma said the detained individuals had been residing in various parts of Gurugram, working as labourers and living in rented accommodation.
The ACP further urged members of the public to assist law-enforcement agencies by reporting individuals they consider suspicious.
“We urge all citizens to play their part in protecting national security. If you notice suspicious individuals among tenants, labourers, domestic workers, hotel employees or construction workers, please share the information by calling 112 or contacting the nearest police station,” he said.
